Dallas, TX is both my hometown and current city (technically born in Dayton, Ohio but lived in Dallas since I was a baby). Family and jobs brought us back to Dallas after college (where I met my wonderful husband 11+ years ago). I love fitness! TurboKick is my jam. I have been actively taking the format for almost a decade now and been teaching it for the past 3 years at GRIT Fitness!
Health and fitness keep me sane in a crazy world.
I love reading books, especially on personal development, so I have a few favorites: “Before Happiness” by Shawn Achor (power of positive thought on success), “The Effective Executive” by Peter Drucker, "Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life" by Maxwell Maltz, and my all-time favorite, “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business" by Charles Duhigg.
Tell us about your path to RBEAUTY
My formal education is a B.S. in Biomedical Science and a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences. I was a VP for a reality television production company and President of a multimillion dollar electronics ecommerce store for 7+ years.
At the beginning of this year, I launched my company, R BEAUTY (RBEAUTY.co) full-time (Online Retail). I am the founder + CEO. Previously I worked directly for a venture capitalist so much of my work experience has been in online retail, advertising (traditional and online) and content marketing. I have worked on a number of different projects and startups, including reality TV shows, online retail, new product development, and platform development. I would not be running my own company now if it hadn’t been for my previous career experience.
Success means learning new things, getting things done, and making money by investing both time and capital wisely. It is a great feeling to see results from projects you’ve headed and executed.
What does success mean to you professionally?
Success means learning new things, getting things done, and making money by investing both time and capital wisely. It is a great feeling to see results from projects you’ve headed and executed. I love to work and get great gratification from professional results. It's not always going to be easy, but you can succeed even if you decide to go in a different direction-I think you have to learn to love results. I love running a company but optimizing websites and Google AdWords campaigns are not my favorite things to do, even though they occupy much of my work.

How have you brought innovation to your industry/current profession?
I don’t know if this is a talent but at my core, I am a hustler and have hustled my butt off professionally. I used to run an electronics ecommerce store prior to running my own company so I have been able to use manufacturing knowledge and contacts to help launch my own company.
I am a scientist at heart so I believe in researching and testing until you’ve found the solution.
What kind of obstacles have you found along the way to your current role/profession, how did you overcome them?
Getting two science degrees and then going into reality television is not a traditional path by any sense. There were a lot of times where I wasn’t sure how to begin a project I was assigned to, but sometimes you just have to start somewhere (even if you don’t know exactly what you should be doing) and things will fall into place. I am a scientist at heart so I believe in researching and testing until you’ve found the solution.
What role does validation and recognition play in your career path? Does it give you motivation to keep going?
Validation and recognition has played a big role in my career path. I was fortunate enough to work directly under the owner of my previous company, who served as a great mentor for my professional career. I would not have had the faith in myself to venture out and start my own company had it not been for the validation and recognition I received at my previous position.
How do you make time for it all? What does balance mean to you?
I am still trying to figure that all out. I have been fortunate enough to love what I doprofessionally but because I love to work so much, other parts of my life have had to take a backseat at times. Thankfully I am beyond blessed with a husband who supports me in my hustle (while he hustles as a trader). I am trying to be better about spending quality time with loved ones and friends but I am work in progress (always).
Balance is a tricky term. I don’t know if we ever achieve complete balance but I try to stay positive, spend time with loved ones, exercise daily, eat nutritious foods, drink green juice, and indulge a little sometimes.
Why is it so important for women to have professional goals?
I think it’s important (for everyone) to always be striving to be better professionally. You have to learn to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Great things don’t happen inside your comfort zone.
