Everything you need for your home gym

With sales going on...What weights should you start with, and which ones are best to keep in your home gym? Here’s a list to guide you to your strongest body this year.

20lb Rubber Hex DUMBBELLS ($50 – shop Walmart here)

Amazon here

Dumbbells are back in stock and this is the main piece of equipment you’ll use for TCF strength training workouts. Although they usually cost $1 per pound, it’s cheaper as a pair. I highly recommend getting a set of 8lbs and 10lbs,

For a full breakdown on dumbbells, here’s my suggestions:

The habit of showing up is more important than the amount of weight you have.

If you haven't been consistent 3x/week for 6-8 months, you really don't need much!

For beginners/re-activators

  • 5lbs & 8lbs

  • + a 15-20lb KB if you can find one, you can do tons with a KB lots of single sided exercises. Trust me you'll want a heavy weight in your home gym.

If you've been working out for 6-8 months or more (regardless of whether or not you took a break you have a firm fitness foundation):

  • 8lbs (good for flyes/raises)-you may graduate from these fast

  • 10lbs, bicep curls, shoulders, triceps

  • 12lbs -  bicep curls, shoulders, triceps (if you can find them this is a game changer) to graduating to 15lbs eventually

  • 15lbs- deadlifts, lunges, step ups, shoulder press, chest press,

  • 20lbs- Consistent lifting for 8-12mos, you will be able to use these often: low rows, deadlifts,

If you’re not sure how you should be using your equipment, or how to program your workouts, I’ve taken the guess work out of it for you with TCF Online programs. Check out the Camp Shred 6 Week Strength Training Program so you can be your fittest, strongest athlete again in 2022.

ADJUSTABLE DUMBBELL SET ($399 – here)

These can be extremely useful for space saving option. However, changing out weights is kind of annoying, so if you can slowly build up your set of free weights at home, that’s my preference. If you’re more patient this is an excellent option and you can go up to 50+ lbs

RESISTANCE BAND SET ($15 – here):

I use bands to simulate a cable machine found at a gym. We use these during quite a few TCF workouts and they are highly effective. I’ve been using Hope Fitness Gear bands for a few years, they’re affordable and they give back. Don’t forget your door anchor (I suggest getting two). I use the Red and Blue bands the most.

ADJUSTABLE Reebok BENCH ($69 – here)

A bench is a versatile piece of equipment allowing for incline presses, step ups, hip thrusts and so much more.

JUMP ROPE ($8 – here)

Looking for a cheap cardio option? Sure to make you sweat and budget friendly.

MINI BANDS ($17 – here):

This is my favorite set! I use these to warm up or give my workouts a little more intensity. I love the little carrying case the Bala bands come in.

20 LB KETTLEBELL ($24 – here)

I use my 20lb KB the most. Although you don’t need one, it’s a great option to have one heavier weight if you’re looking to get stronger, and I use them for both cardio and weighted movements.

Is there something you love having at home that I’m missing? I would love to hear what you enjoy using the most in the comments.
